Reminisce, discuss and celebrate the past in 'Victoria's Football History' Facebook group

FV has launched the Facebook group 'Victoria's Football History' as a central location for you to share your stories, photos and memories of our state's rich footballing past.

Long before the rise of social media, ten's of thousands of passionate fans would pack into suburban stadiums around our state each weekend. For many, football was more than a game.

It provided people with an escape from everyday life but more importantly a way to connect with their local communities on a scale that few other things can.

These suburban Victorian football grounds were the birthplace of legends. Fans once marvelled at a teenage Mark Viduka lighting up Knights Stadium while young, ambitious coaches like Rale Rasic, Frank Arok and Ange Postecoglou launched their illustrious careers in our game's top flight.

Today, the thought of a global superstar travelling from Europe to challenge themselves for Victoria's top honours seems unthinkable, but Ferenc Puskas ensured that that too is ingrained in the fabric of Victoria's football history when he arrived in South Melbourne in 1989 to much fanfare.

Fortunately, many photos, anecdotes and memories of these past glories still exist within our community - and we would love for you to share and relive them in our Facebook group.

Moderated by History and Heritage Coordinator Tony Persoglia, the group is the perfect place to relive memories, find lost football connections, or track down historic information.
