Inaugural Skill Acquisition Phase Camp

On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November, Football Victoria (FV) hosted the inaugural Skill Acquisition Phase (SAP) Camp at Darebin International Sports Centre.

The FV SAP Camp was a two day event, involving players from U9’s, U10’s and U11’s participating in training sessions on the Saturday and Gala Day matches on the Sunday in their respective age groups.

Metropolitan clubs were invited to nominate players in their relevant age groups at the beginning of 2020, to form part of the newly launched SAP Centres. In the absence of football during COVID-19 restrictions, online home programs and weekly challenges were provided to the players to keep them engaged with the game.

With the Victorian Government lifting restrictions for community sport to return, the SAP Centres were adapted into a Camp format, allowing players to finally get back on the pitch to train and play games in their respective zones in the camp format.

The weekend was a success with over 19 teams (180 players) involved across the two days. A total of 6 female and 12 male FV coaches were on hand to put the players through two technical sessions on the Saturday, before concluding the Camp with Gala Day matches on the Sunday.

The Melbourne weather didn’t stop players enjoying their football and being back on the park after an unprecedented year, with some great talent on display from the 80 girls and 100 boys in attendance.

A second SAP Camp has been organised for players to attend on the weekend of Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December.
