FV re-launches renown Club Coach Coordinator Program

The highly successful Club Coach Coordinator (CCC) Program is returning to Victoria.

Player retention is vital to any sport and club and according to research from Football Australia, one of the main reasons players leave football is due to a poor coaching or trial experience.

Football Australia’s CCC Program has been developed to address this challenge and provide relevant and valued coach support in a club environment.

FV has recently relaunched the CCC Program to support the development of coaches around the state and enhance the experience for all involved in their local club. The Club Coach Coordinator Program is a key part of FV’s vision to provide enjoyable, high-quality participation experiences for players and coaches and to unite football across the state.

Football Victoria encourages clubs to appoint a CCC to enhance the coaching and playing experience for all involved at the club.

Responsibilities of a Club Coach Coordinator include:

  • Supporting a positive club coaching culture
  • Working to actively recruit new coaches
  • Mentoring and supporting club coaches
  • Ensuring the coaches have access to learning opportunities and resources

Great club cultures arise through conscious behaviours which in turn will form positive and pleasant experiences. Some of these behaviours are used throughout the program. A CCC will work towards achieving the following throughout the season:

  • A level of support to new and inexperienced coaches,
  • A level of satisfaction of parents with the coaching that is provided,
  • An increased number of coaches retained the following season.

The critical aspect of this role is to help new and inexperienced coaches. This is achieved by providing positive experiences for young players through supported coaching behaviours.

A minimum requirement is that the sessions are safe, organised, enjoyable and engaging.

In practice, this means the coach will:

  • Ensure all players can enjoy the experience with their friends and have fun
  • 80% of the session, players are involved in engaging football activities/games
  • Maximise opportunities for players to learn and develop by ensuring each player gets a minimum of 250-300 ball contacts / session
  • All sessions look like football (no queues or fitness work)
