League Honours: Men's National Premier Leagues
1909-1956 | 1958-1990 | 1991-2013 | 2014-2024 | Summary
The Victorian Premier League debuted in 1991, and by the following year, a four-week Finals Series with a season-ending Grand Final was used to determine the champion (with the exception of 1999 and 2000). The disbanding of the NSL in 2004 resulted in a back-to-the-future season in 2005, with South Melbourne and Melbourne Knights dropping down to the VPL, and Heidelberg United and Sunshine George Cross winning promotion in the same year, joining Preston Lions, Green Gully and Bulleen Zebras. Northcote City would claim its first championship in 2013, in what proved to be the final season before the NPL era.
