Top referee Laura Moya tells us about her football journey.
The Role of the Referee
Referees are responsible for enforcing the Laws of the Game during a football match.
Eligibility/How to apply
To referee football:
- Complete the FFA online Laws of the Game course
- Attend Level 4 Referee course. The course is completed over one day and contains practical and theoretical components - see here for when/where the next introductory referee courses are being held.
FV also holds all-female courses twice a year:
- During Female Football Week, just before the start of the Victorian football season, and
- In October, as part of the W-League Festivals, just after the Victorian football season and just before the women's national league commences.
All-female courses are delivered subject to demand, so please register your interest here!
For more details on how to become a referee, see the Referee resources section.
Pathway
The pathway to officiate at a higher level is through the FV Referee Academy. The best officials from the academy officiate in the top national competitions - Foxtel National Youth League, Westfield W-League and Hyundai A-League matches - and some of our referees officiate internationally.
