Creating Stronger, Injury-Free Players
REGISTRATIONS FOR THE REGIONAL WORKSHOPS:
Do you want to reduce your players' risk of injury?
Do you want to keep your players on the field?
Do you want to create fitter, stronger and injury-free athletes?
Then here is FIFA 11+!
What is it?
FIFA 11+ is an effective injury prevention program developed by FIFA. Designed as a complete warm-up, it can be done in place of a regular warm-up before training/games and includes specific strengthening exercises and drills to reduce the likelihood of injuries in football players. The exercises are designed to improve strength in the lower limbs and core, greater neuromuscular control and awareness throughout a range of motions.
There are three parts to the program;
- part one is running exercises,
- part two involves plyometric, strength and balance exercises with the possibility to progress through levels
- part three is further running exercises.
The whole sequence only takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, perfect for a pre-game warm up or the beginning of training.
The program has been proven to reduce the incidence of lower limb injuries by 39% amongst male and female players. Specifically in females, it has been shown to reduce knee injuries by 52%. Ultimately, the program will assist coaches in building better, stronger players, resulting in winning more games!
What do you do with it?
Due to the nature of the program, it is possible to implement without any assistance. You may use the manual, poster and instructional videos (see buttons above) to assist you in coaching the exercises.
However, throughout the season, FFV will run a number of educational clinics to assist coaches and players to implement the exercises. The sessions will focus on the practical use of the program and participants will walk away with the skills and confidence to effectively execute the program within their own team.We will also be discussing and developing action plans to overcome barriers that may present with the ongoing use of FIFA 11+
Keep on the look out for further information regarding these clinics. In the mean time, have a look at the poster, manual and videos to become more familiar with some of the exercises.
How often and when should it be used?
The program is designed as a warm-up and should be done at the beginning of a training session and before a match. Ideally, it should be completed at least twice per week (once at training, once prior to a match).
Is it hard?
The exercises are not new and are neither difficult to complete or to coach. The manual outlines a step by step guide to the specifically designed sequence. The exercises are designed for all levels of experience including an amateur/recreational level and require minimal technical knowledge.
However, by having your club take part in a clinic, you will learn the skills to be able to confidently instruct the exercises and with practice, you will become sufficient in coaching and correcting technique.
What will you need?
A major benefit of the FIFA 11+ is the bare minimum of equipment and resources it requires. To complete the sequence all you will need is:
- 12 cones
- a flat surface approximately the size of quarter a pitch (ideally a grass surface to closely mimic playing conditions)
- the poster, manual, or app (Get Set) to assist you.
