Football/Futsal suspension extended in Metro Melbourne

With the Victorian Government’s announcement of an extension to the lockdown for Metropolitan Melbourne, Football Victoria (FV) confirms that all Football/Futsal activities in Metropolitan Melbourne will be further suspended until at least 11:59pm, Thursday 19 August.

This includes all organised competitions, practice matches & training sessions, refereeing training sessions, in-person referee & coaching courses, Cup competitions/tournaments, Futsal competitions and training, Talent ID and FV elite development programs.

Clubs and Associations in Regional Victoria can continue with football activity, per yesterday’s release of Return To Play Conditions for Regional VIC.

We encourage all Metropolitan Clubs to stay connected with parents and players to prepare them for the resumption of football when restrictions allow. The FV competitions team continue to plan scenarios that address immediate and future challenges.  FV appreciates the patience and understanding of our community as we navigate through plans for all competitions. Further updates regarding competitions will be provided in due course.

We also encourage Clubs to support players to maintain physical activity during competition suspension and return to competitive play. This includes areas such as running loading that includes high-speed running and change of direction movement at game speed intensity, actions involving quick starts/stops and individual technical skill practice.
