To become a referee, the first step is to take the match official introductory level course!
The Junior Football Match Official course is for anyone wanting to become a referee (minimum age of 13). The online components provide participants with 24/7 access to complete the course at a time that suits their schedule. The course includes five modules – four conducted online and one 3-hour in-person practical session.
The course costs $199 and includes:
- Online course access
- 3-hour practical session
- Free first year Referee registration (valued at $100)
- Macron Referee Uniform – shirt, shorts, socks (valued at $120)
- Discounted second year Referee registration
- Whistle
- Red & Yellow cards
- Assistant Referee flags
- FV Referee Pass - Free access to all FV Competition Matches including NPLM, NPLW, SLM & SLW (except Finals Series)
How to register for the course
ONLINE COMPONENT
- Register your PlayFootball account as Learner Vic (Note: If you have an existing Play Football account, please register to Learner Vic and select Referee). You will then receive an approval notification via email from PlayFootball (which may take up to 2 working days). U18's will require a Working with Children Check exemption, which can be done by clicking HERE.
- Login to etrainu using your FA Number with the prefix 'fa.' (use Google Chrome). For example, 'fa.12345678'.
- Complete the Laws of the Game module, which is a free prerequisite for all courses.
- Register for and complete 100% of the Junior Football Match Official Online Course. This costs $33.
- Enrol in the Junior Football Match Official Classroom Recap and Practical at a date that suits you. This costs $166.
PRACTICAL COMPONENT
- Once you have attended and completed your practical session, you can order your Macron Referee Kit using a discount code provided to you after the practical component.
- You then need to complete a 'Ready to Ref' referee registration process, which costs $4.40 (fixed FA Admin fee).
- FV Referees will create you a DRIBL account where you will provide your availability to officiate, start receiving referee appointments and your Match Fees. If you already play or coach, you may have a DRIBL account. In this case, there is no need to create a new one.
