Football Coaching Courses

MiniRoos

MiniRoos is aimed at volunteer parents and coaches working with novice players or players aged approximately up to ten (10) years old. The session is entirely practical and encourages the coach to create games based on enjoyment. The focus is on learning by playing football. The secret to encouraging players to develop a love for the game without coaching is to organise enjoyable football activities. The coaches’ exposure to fundamental game rules and guidance on creating an enjoyable and safe football environment.

Foundation of Football

The Foundation of Football is aimed at volunteer parents and coaches working with advanced beginner to competent level players or players aged up to approximately fifteen (15) years old. This course is a prerequisite for the Football Australia/AFC C Diploma. Coaches will participate in practical sessions covering the basics of techniques as well as learning about basic playing principles of the game. The course is mostly practical and not graded, allowing the student to participate in the training sessions if they so choose. The course also promotes participating in group discussions with the goal of exchanging experiences.

The Foundation of Football replaces the former community accreditation - Skill Training Certificate, Game Training Certificate and Senior Coaching Certificate.

Goalkeeping Coaching Courses

Football Australia Foundation of Goalkeeping

The Foundation of Goalkeeping course is designed as the first accreditation step for coaches, parents or volunteers who work with, or plan to work with goalkeepers of any standard across the country.

The training is designed with the player in mind and is based on how goalkeeper sessions should be delivered: safely and effectively and with a sense of fun. After completing the course, the student will be able to: Identify the training needs of goalkeepers, identify ways to make training inclusive for all participants, implement basic goalkeeper coaching principles, and create engaging goalkeeper sessions.

The Foundation of Goalkeeping replaces the former community accreditation - Community Goalkeeper Coaching Certificate.

Futsal Coaching Courses

Foundation of Futsal

The Foundation of Futsal is aimed at volunteer parents and coaches working with novice players or players aged up to approximately twelve (12) years old. You will participate in classes covering the basics of futsal as well as learning about basic playing formations during this course. The course is entirely practical and not graded, allowing the student to participate in real training sessions if they so choose. The course also promotes participating in group discussions with the goal of exchanging experiences.

The Foundation of Futsal replaces the former community accreditation - Futsal Coaching Certificate and Futsal Coaching Licence. 

Coaching Course Registrations

Course registrations are available on the Football Australia Learning Centre.

Coaches are required to have had an active PlayFootball registration (2023 or 2024) to gain access to the Football Australia Learning Centre. If you have not yet registered for the 2024 season or are not currently coaching, we have established learner clubs.

To register to these learner clubs, please select your appropriate club or head to ‘https://www.playfootball.com.au/club-registration-search‘ and search for 'Learner', select 'Learner Vic', and proceed with the registration process. Once registered, please allow 6 hours to access the Football Australia Learning Centre again.

Hosting a Course

To ensure that coaching courses are conducted when Clubs & their coaches require them rather than being directed by FV, this course request form allows course scheduling to be driven by the clubs

If there is a demand within your club for a course (MiniRoos, Foundation of Football, Foundation of Goalkeeping or Foundation of Futsal) please complete this Jotform link.

To be considered able to host a coaching course at your club, there are key requirements that need to be met. Your club venue must be able to provide the following for the entirety of the course:

  • Sole access to a marked pitch (with lights - if conducted at night).
  • Sole access to changing rooms.
  • Sole access to a classroom/clubroom space that has tables and chairs (for all participants).
  • Ideally a whiteboard/Audio Visual equipment (not mandatory but preferred).
