Victorian Kate Jacewicz selected to referee at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games

Football Victoria would like to congratulate Kate Jacewicz on being appointed to the Referee Committee for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The event, which will commence in July 2021, will be the Victorian’s Olympic Games debut and add to her growing list of impressive achievements.

To date, Jacewicz has been recognised as W-League Referee Of The Year a record eight times and was the first female referee to officiate an A-League match.

She has also compiled an impressive international résumé, having refereed at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup and earning an early selection ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games refereeing panel will be made up of 25 referees, 50 assistant referees, 20 video match officials and four support staff. More than 51 nations will be represented.

Among these, Jacewicz will be joined by fellow Australian referee Chris Beath and Assistant Referees Ashley Beecham and Anton Shchetinin, all of who will also make their Olympic Games Debut.

The four officials are highly regarded in the world game and all have been on the FIFA Panel of International Referees for a number of years (Jacewicz and Beath 2011, Beecham 2013 and Shchetinin 2016).

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games kick off in July 2021, with the Women’s Football Tournament commencing 21 July. The gold medal game will take place at the Olympic Stadium, Tokyo on August 6. The men’s competition will take place between 21 July and 7 August, with the final to be held at the International Stadium, Yokohama.
