Sale United FC recognised at the VicSport 2023 Sport Awards

Sale United FC's Primary Schools Twilight Tournament has been honoured with the Vicsport Community Event of the Year award for 2023!

The prestigious VicSport Awards ceremony was held in the Victory Room at Marvel Stadium on Wednesday, June 12, where Laurel Irvine, Gabrielle Clare, Anouk Meereboer, and Madelaine Breakspear proudly accepted the award on behalf of the club.

In a heartfelt statement, Sale United expressed how "very humbling" it was to receive the My Sport Live Community Sporting Event of the Year award and to be named a top-four finalist for the Love the Game Community Sporting Club of the Year.

The Facebook post read: "2023 saw the club celebrate 30 years of bringing Twilight soccer to the entire Wellington Shire community. The club has a great rapport with the Wellington Shire primary schools and families who enter teams."

The tournament has given every single child aged 4 to 12 years, both boys and girls, the opportunity to participate in football and have fun. From 15 teams in 1993 to 67 teams in 2023, nearly 700 kids now play soccer every Monday during Term 4. This growth is a testament to the club's dedication to making football accessible and enjoyable for all, especially for female participants.

VicSport Chair Ritchie Hinton highlighted the significance of the Victorian Sport Awards, stating, "The Victorian Sport Awards is such a special night because it recognises our grassroots heroes alongside those who have excelled at an elite level. This year was another great celebration of the best that our state sporting and active recreation industry has to offer, and my congratulations to everyone who was honoured."

Congratulations to Sale United FC for their incredible achievement and ongoing commitment to community sport!
