Hume City Takes Out 2019 Dockerty Cup Final

Hume City has taken out the 110th Dockerty Cup final with a 1-0 win over Melbourne Knights at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex.

It was Hume City’s first ever Dockerty Cup win, which broke the back of agonising semi-final losses in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

In windy, cold and partly wet conditions, both sides lifted the temperature from the kick-off as they battled for the historic silverware.

Whilst both started with intent, Hume City settled the better and went in front with a wonderful strike from prolific midfielder James Brown from the edge of the box.

His 28th-minute shot curled over Knights keeper Harry Cakarun in a goal befitting a final.

In a tight second half with several bookings, the Knights continued to push forward, with striker Hamish Watson looking most likely to keep their cup dream alive.

However, Hume City held firm in the dying stages to register their inaugural Dockerty Cup win. Celebrations will be short-lived with NPL finals and the Round of 16 of the FFA Cup still ahead.
