World Game Boom In Wendouree West

Football's participation boom in Wendouree West is set to be future-proofed as a $7 million facility upgrade proposal was announced today by the Andrews Labor Government.

The redevelopment of Wendouree West Recreation Reserve project will include a new pavilion and community hub, new football pitches and lighting for night games.

Community football is growing quickly, with around 1200 participants in the Ballarat area alone. This number is expected to grow even bigger, reaching nearly 2000 players by 2026.

“At its core, community sport is all about community spirit," Premier The Hon. Daniel Andrews MP said.

"With this investment, we’ll help make this strong community even stronger.”

“From our next great soccer stars to local pups – this will be a space everyone can enjoy.”

FFV CEO Peter Filopoulos said the announcement showed the strong strategic alignment between all stakeholders in the game.

"It is an exciting time for Football and FFV welcomes facility initiatives that continue to deliver on FFV's strategic priorities," Mr Filopoulos said.

"Football continues to succeed as the activity that gives all Victorians access to a vibrant and open sporting community. More places to play and better facilities for our football communities will enhance the experience of being involved in the World Game."
