Volunteer Week Spotlight: Cameron Irvine

During National Volunteer Week 2021, we’re shining a spotlight on some of the hard-working, dedicated volunteers in our football community.

Cameron Irvine was nominated for a feature by Darleen Richardson for his incredible contribution to Sale United Football.

"Cameron is very proactive, he is constantly working around the Club and puts in excess of 30 volunteer hours per week. Every single week of the year," Darleen said.

"You will see him work late into the night to complete projects without fuss and he always delivers at a high level. He makes the whole Club a better place for all of us.

"He marks the lines on our three pitches and puts out the goals for the games every week during our regular season and our Summer 7 v 7 tournaments. He sprays all the weeds across the pitches and works with the council to make sure that the pitches are in pristine condition.

"Cameron will be a marshall at games or volunteer to run the line if needed.  He rebuilt the new bar area inside the club, put up all the advertising screens and set up the security system.

"He runs the bar, ensures there is no rubbish at the venue, recycles cans/cardboard and does all the odd jobs that nobody even thinks of doing. Some days you will find him working in the canteen as well.

"He is currently the project manager for our new fencing/coaches’ boxes, that will be completed later this year. He also played a major role in the rebuild of our new female friendly facility.

"Cameron films our games and live streams some of them so families can watch from afar.  As well as all the maintenance and renovation improvements he completes, he also is our Registrar and Treasurer and ensures our finances are in order.

"When COVID-19 shut football down he worked to ensure that the Club was ready to go as soon as football was ready to return. He made sure we had enough equipment and that the grounds were in tip-top condition.

"He has been at our club for 14 years and for the past 7 of the those has been a constant figurehead working for the betterment of the community. His skills and creative flair are of an extremely high level and we are so very lucky to have him as a member of our club.

"Cameron deserves recognition because what he does, he does for the love of the club and the game.

"He encompasses what a true volunteer should be all about and has contributed to make our club one of the best. He is a credit to football."
