Stories of Female Football Week: William Ong

Women and girls make an incredible contribution to our game, both on and off the pitch. Throughout Female Football Week (1-10 May), we will be sharing YOUR stories to celebrate this contribution with the wider Victorian football community.

Today, William Ong speaks about Knox City FC's inclusive culture and the importance of investing in leadership.

At Knox City Football Club, we have a proud history with our women's program and have worked hard to ensure its success over the last 5 years.

Knox City Football Club this year have put a huge emphasis on supporting our female athletes both on and off the pitch. We have seen huge growth in our program and ensure we put the right things in place to help our athletes thrive.

In 2021 we have ensured we have a women's cut kit from top to shorts to ensure they are playing in clothing made for their bodies. The club has also hired a female qualified physio to support each player’s physical health.

Two of our players this year attended FV Young Leaders Program to help inspire our women. The program provided the women tools needed to sit on the board or advise the club on the general direction our program needs to head.

We have seen a huge benefit from investing in our women’s program. We have a very strong culture that promises to build, promote and encourage our footballers both on and off the pitch for years to come!
