Victorians Help Joeys to Winning Start at AFF U-15 Champs

Three Victorians helped Australia’s 2019 AFF U-15 Championship campaign in Chonburi, Thailand, get off to a winning start on Sunday, with Trevor Morgan’s youngsters claiming a 3-1 win over Cambodia.

Jai Curran-Nicholls (Glen Eira FC), Massimo D'Argenio (Moreland Zebras) and George Karvounis (Melbourne Victory) all represented their nation for the first time as the Joeys raced to a 3-0 lead at the break.

Midway through the second stanza Australia conceded a penalty. The resulting strike was originally saved by custodian Jack Warshawsky, however an unfortunate deflection off an Australian defender led to Cambodia pulling a goal back.

The Joeys will play their second match at the tournament on Tuesday afternoon (local time) against Laos. Laos suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to hosts Thailand on Sunday in their first match, which was played shortly after Australia’s opener.
