In mid-January, Football Victoria was thrilled to launch its inaugural summer competition for All Abilities participants.
After a quiet 2020 due to COVID-19, the GO5s AAA Summer Competition successfully took place at the Darebin International Sports Centre.
The social five-a-side tournament is designed for people living with a physical and/or intellectual disability. It is modified to be played on a smaller pitch, measuring at 30m x 20m.
Over the course of four weeks, the six competing teams played a total of eight rounds to determine a winner.
There were many moments of individual brilliance and teamwork on display, including fantastic goalkeeper saves, dribbling and passing skills. The players were cheered on by passionate supporters on the sidelines who helped to create an exciting atmosphere.
Karen Pearce, Executive Manager Growth and Inclusion acknowledged the Victorian State Government through the Together More Active fund for their financial support.
“We have an outstanding relationship with Sport, Recreation and Racing and their ongoing support makes it possible for Football Victoria to engage people with impairment and provide an opportunity for them to be involved in football.”
Football Victoria would also like thank DOC Football Academy, Doveton Special Soccer School, Glen Eira Rangers FC and Northern Falcons FC for competing in the inaugural summer competition as a precursor to the winter season.
Big congratulations to Doveton Special Soccer School Team 1 who came first winning seven out of their eight games!
