FV to host the inaugural Women’s Health Week Walking Football Tournament

Football Victoria (FV) is proud to host the inaugural Women’s Health Week Walking Football Tournament at Keilor Basketball Stadium on Friday, September 9.

Walking Football provides a safe and fun space for seniors to keep active and be social in their community with 17 teams entered in the tournament from various walking hubs across Victoria.

There are 20 walking hubs operating across the state, each location having participants aged from 45 to 82 years old.

Program Manager Abraham Abraham said the day was going to be an enjoyable event for all involved.

‘Join us as we celebrate Women’s Health Week through a fun and social tournament for seniors,” he said.

“The event will be held in the west promoting health activities which are sometimes missing within the western suburbs.”

Women’s Health Week is a nationwide campaign of events and online activities focused on improving women’s health to help make healthier choices.

Improving and Protecting Community Health (IPC Health), IPC Health which is one of the largest providers of community health services in Victoria will be in attendance on the day to provide health warmups and information.

Mr Abraham welcomed anyone interested in Walking Football to join their local centre and reap the benefits.

“When you connect with your local hub you’ll make new friends, you keep fit by playing football and it is also inclusive for everyone,” he said.

“We have some members with Parkinson’s Disease that wouldn’t be able to play mainstream football but can through walking football.”

The upcoming event follows the success of June’s Men’s Health Week tournament held in partnership with Whittlesea City Council and U3A.

Football Australia and Football Victoria look forward to participating in the event and wishes good luck to all involved.
