Football Federation Victoria launch State Football Facilities strategy to 2026

Football Federation Victoria (FFV) launched the State Football Facilities strategy to 2026 on August 27 at AAMI Park, Melbourne.

The strategy outlines FFV’s plan to work hand-in-hand with local communities and government, to upgrade local football facilities across the state, to ensure they can meet the demands of Australia’s fastest growing club-based participation sport.

The launch will include representatives from local and state government, Football Federation Australia, and local Victorian clubs, including

  • The Hon. John Eren (Minister for Sport, Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Minister for Veterans)
  • Peter Filopoulos (FFV CEO) and Kimon Taliadoros (FFV President)
  • Various Sport and Recreation Victoria representatives
  • Craig Foster (SBS commentator, national football icon and Head Coach FNSW Girls)
  • Emma Highwood (Head of Community, Football Development and Women’s Football Football Federation Australia)
  • Mayors from 12 councils and representation from a further 25 councils across Victoria

Peter Filopoulos, CEO Football Federation Victoria, said while grassroots demand for football is strong, local clubs are struggling to keep up.

“It’s well known football is the number one participation sport in the country. But sadly, every day we hear another story of how our clubs across the state don’t have the facilities to keep up with this growth and end up knocking back people who want to play”, he said.

“The Launch of our Facilities Plan is about developing a pathway forward for these local football communities so that we can ensure everybody – no matter age, background, gender or ability, can be involved in the game they love”, Mr Filopoulos said.
