Football is back with a vengeance

Football pitches are starting to fill up across Victoria with the FFA Cup and NPL competitions on in earnest this weekend.

The FFA Cup enters its official Rd 1 phase after the qualifying rounds were completed last weekend, featuring State League 5 and some Regional Victorian teams.

Mildura, the furthest team from Melbourne recorded a win in their clash against Shepparton last Saturday. With temperatures reaching 38 degrees at kick-off, it was a tough afternoon for both sides. Despite conceding early, the home team ran out 4-2 winners and progressed to the next round to face Chisolm United this weekend.

The stories behind the games are often what makes the FFA Cup so enjoyable and Chisolm’s journey to Mildura is a story in itself. The boys from State League 4 have decided to hire a bus and will do the 14 hour return trip on the same day.

Gippsland 2000 were another regional team to progress last weekend and join Tatura and Moama Echuca as the other regional clubs in in Round 1 action.

The winners from State 5 and the State 4 teams are the others to take part in the knock out action this weekend.

We’ll keep you updated with the results on our website and don’t forget the next draw of the FFA Cup for Rd 2 will take place live on the FV Facebook page at 12pm on Monday 1 March.
