Five New Teams in MSL in 2020

Football Victoria (FV) today welcomed five new clubs into the Men’s State League (MSL) for the 2020 season.

FV congratulated Broadmeadows Stars SC, Macedon Blues United FC, Mount Martha SC, South East United FC and Old Melburnians SC on their promotion to the MSL.

The FV Competitions Team is currently updating the 2020 MSL structures and will announce final team allocations to a League Zone soon.

FV CEO Peter Filopoulos said FV was pleased to have a large pool of applications with limited vacancies for season 2020.

“Some clubs, unfortunately, were unlucky to miss out and we’ll continue working to prepare them for post 2020. It’s extremely pleasing to see the game growing in all pockets of the state and we look forward to the continued growth of the game through the hard work of our volunteers at the grassroots level,” Mr Filopoulos said.

The new clubs to MSL in 2020 were delighted when informed of their new status. Reactions included:

"Given the privilege to compete in MSL 2020 allows a considerable number of young men to have a pathway to continue playing and staying in the game that we love," Lucas Valmorbida "Vals" - Macedon Blues United FC.

“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success. MSL is the reward,” Sinan Akkurt – South East United SC

"We’re extremely proud and excited to be accepted into the Men’s State League for season 2020, which will enable us to offer a pathway into Senior soccer for our eldest junior players,” Cheree Lane – Mount Martha SC

“A new chapter for our young club, a new avenue for our junior boys to aim for,” Eren Samat - Broadmeadows Stars SC

“With the successes of our Sunday teams in the Metro Leagues over the past few years and the launch of the newly built state-of-the-art football facility at Gardiner Park in East Malvern, the club is in the best position it’s ever been to take the region by storm, and exceed the lofty heights we’ve enjoyed over our 30 year journey,” Jon-Paul Michail – Old Melburnians SC.
