Congratulations to Melbourne City young gun and Maribyrnong College student Naomi Chinnama for winning the School Sports Victoria Sporting Blue Award for Football.
The annual award is presented to a standout student who has helped their school develop successful partnerships with local sporting communities, thereby increasing opportunities for students and teachers to participate in sport.
Naomi (pictured next to Karen Pearce, Executive Manager Growth and Inclusion at FV) has steadily risen through the ranks of school and community football, first at her local club Point Cook, and then at Maribyrnong College, both at regional and state level.
She then moved on to captain Team Victoria at the Nationals three times, whilst also playing a pivotal role in the 2019 School Sport Victoria Premier League winning team.
Her young career elevated to a new level when at the age of 16, she was signed by A-League Women side Melbourne City.
In September 2021, Naomi signed a two-year extension with the club and has since made her debut for the Young Matildas.
Last week, she was again selected for the Young Matildas training camp, taking place this week in Sydney, as the Australians ramp up their preparation for the FIFA U20 World Cup Costa Rica 2022.
On behalf of the entire football community, Football Victoria would like to congratulate Naomi on this incredible achievement.
