FFA Cup Round 5 continues to enthral

It wouldn’t be an FFA Cup match day without another classic David v Goliath battle, when State League 3 outfit Altona North travel to Bentleigh to take on the Greens, who are 5 divisions above them.

The club, founded by Maltese immigrants in 1975 is an ambitious club and are coming off a promotion from State League Division and pushing for another promotion this year.

Club President Riccardo Conte says they may be small in scale but are big minded in the way they approach everything.

“Whilst we were founded by Maltese immigrants we are now a diverse and inclusive club, represented by many different cultures. It wasn’t too long ago that we were playing in a Sunday league, but we have come a long way since then.

The team shocked many in Victorian Football when they knocked out NPL club St Albans in the last round.

“We were all up for. We were playing at our ground, which helped a lot. Everyone was pretty jubilant, it was the biggest day in our club’s history for sure.”

The match will take place on Tuesday, May 4 at Kingston Heath, kick-off 7pm.
