Club Match Official Assistance Program

Football Victoria's Club Match Official Assistance Program is designed to educate and empower Club volunteers to step up and officiate a community game in the rare event of an emergency.

Our referee community does an incredible job covering matches across the state every week. But their numbers are limited; and there will be times that an accredited referee might not be on hand for your match.

With that in mind, we’re really pleased to announce a brand new upskilling program for parents and volunteers at Clubs, called the Club Match Official Assistance program.

We know that parents and volunteers are often on the frontline, stepping in to officiate when there is a gap. However, some individuals may not feel entirely comfortable to do so, without a better understanding of some of the rules and regulations of our game.

This program is a great way to provide support, guidance and comfort to parents and volunteers, so they feel empowered to step in if needed.

It’s a much more low key option than completing a full referee course; but will provide the basic tips and information to support your community.

We recommend that each Club appoints at least one volunteer per team to take part in the program.

How Does the Club Match Official Assistance Program work?

All participants must complete the theory component on GO1 before attending the practical session. A step-by-step rundown of the program is as follows:

  1. A Club representative must complete the Club Match Official Assistance Program EOI (link below)
  2. Your Club will receive GO1 login details within 3-5 days
  3. Your Club to distribute your GO1 login to volunteers interested in the program
  4. FV will contact your Club to host a practical session
  5. All event information will be circulated on GO1 once dates and venues are confirmed
  6. At the completion of the practical session, clubs will have skilled individuals to officiate matches where a referee is not appointed or unavailable
