Calder United wins 2019 FV Women's Community Shield

Calder United retained the Football Victoria Women's Community Shield with a convincing 3-1 win against FC Bulleen Lions to open the state women's football season.

The Community Shield theme of #SaveHakeem was updated to #HakeemSaved in celebration of the safe return of Pascoe Vale footballer Hakeem al-Araibi to Australia after his detention in Thailand.

Reigning NPL Victoria Women's gold medalist Catherine Zimmerman scored two goals while new Calder signing Adriana Taranto was selected as player of the match by the referees.

The showpiece game at Green Gully was a prelude to the NPLW season kick-off on Saturday February 23.
