Bentleigh Greens Claim 2019 Community Shield

The Victorian football community rallied around the #SaveHakeem movement on Thursday night at ABD Stadium as Bentleigh Greens defeated Heidelberg United 2-0 to claim the Football Victoria Community Shield.

A goal from Greens striker Matt Thurtell in each half was enough to deliver victory for the 2018 Dockerty Cup holders, while winger Valentino Yuel was award best afield.

Fans and football figures rallied around the #SaveHakeem movement in support of detailed Pascoe Vale FC player Hakeem al-Araibi. The refugee remains detained in a Thai jail and is currently facing extradition to his native Bahrain.

The movement continues at the Football Victoria Women's Community Shield on Friday February 15 at Green Gully. Women's NPL champions FC Bulleen Lions will play Calder United from 7:45pm in the match. Entry is free and donations can be made to the #SaveHakeem movement at the gate.
