Australia Cup Round of 16 Match Schedule Confirmed

The match schedule for the Australia Cup 2022 Round of 16 was released by Football Australia today, which will see eight exciting matches take place over the course of seven days in this phase of the nation’s largest annual knockout sporting competition.

Between Wednesday, 10 August and Wednesday, 17 August – the Australia Cup 2022 Round of 16 will feature teams from New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria, along with the Wellington Pheonix from New Zealand, all gunning to be crowned the 2022 Winners.

Kicking off proceedings on Wednesday, 10 August will be Bentleigh Greens SC (VIC) against 2017 Cup Winners, Sydney FC at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex. Bentleigh won through to the Round of 16 following a dramatic extra-time victory over Broadmeadow Magic FC (NNSW) and will be looking to create a “cupset” against Steve Corica’s men.

Also on Wednesday, 10 August will be Modbury Jets SC (SA) against Dwight Yorke’s Macarthur FC at ServiceFM Stadium in Adelaide. The Bulls head into this Round of 16 match following an impressive 6-0 victory over Magpies Crusaders United FC (QLD) in Mackay but will face sterner opposition from the Jets, who are the current South Australian State League One leaders.

Two fantastic matches await on the afternoon of Sunday, 14 August, when former National Soccer League Champions and 2016 National Premier League Champions of Australia, Sydney United 58 FC (NSW) will take on the current A-League Men’s Champions, Western United FC in a 2.00pm AEST kick-off at Sydney United Sports Centre. Western United knocked out the reigning Australia Cup holders, Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park in the Round of 32, and are looking to hold both the A-League Men and Australia Cup titles as they enter the 2022-23 season.

At 4.00pm AEST, Peninsula Power FC (QLD) will be looking to keep their Cup run going against Victorian NPL side, Green Gully SC at A.J Kelly Park in Redcliffe. The home side had an empathic 4-1 win over NWS Spirit FC (NSW) during the Round of 32, whereas Gully was pushed all the way by Association club, Wollongong United, coming away victorious from the Illawarra, 3-2.

Since the Round of 16 Draw was conducted on Wednesday night (3 August), the talk of the South Australian football community has been the clash between Adelaide City FC (SA) and Adelaide United FC, which is scheduled for 7.00pm (local) on Wednesday, 17 August at ServiceFM Stadium. A capacity crowd is expected for this highly anticipated match, which can only happen via the open draw nature of the Australia Cup.

Rounding out the Round of 16, are three games in the Victorian capital on Wednesday, 17 August where Melbourne City FC will face fellow A-League Men side, Wellington Phoenix FC at Casey Fields; Oakleigh Cannons FC (VIC) host Brisbane City FC (QLD); and in another Victoria vs Queensland encounter, Avondale FC (VIC) meet an inform Brisbane Roar FC at ABD Stadium.

All home teams will look after ticketing for their respective match, where details once confirmed will be promoted via their club’s digital and social media channels and via the Australia Cup website.

The Draw for the Australia 2022 Quarter-Finals will take place LIVE on 10 Play following their coverage of the Adelaide City FC (SA) vs. Adelaide United FC clash on Wednesday, 17 August, where the Quarter-Finals are scheduled for 27, 28, 30 and 31 August.

Like in 2021, the Australia Cup 2022 will serve as a pathway to Asia, with the winner of the competition granted one of Australia’s slots in the Group Stage of the AFC Cup 2023. The AFC Cup is the second highest level of club football in Asia, sitting below the AFC Champions League.

The winner of the Australia Cup 2022 will be crowned on Saturday, 1 October 2022, when the Final is contested just days prior to the commencement of the eighteenth season of A-League Men on Friday, 7 October 2022.
