Applications open for Sport Australia's Women Leaders in Sport program

Sport Australia has opened applications for the 2021 edition of its renowned Women Leaders in Sport (WLIS) program.

The program aims to empower women to reach their leadership potential within the sports industry through grants and educational workshops.

WLIS strongly aligns with Football Victoria’s (FV) commitment to gender equality. FV is seeking to reach a 50/50 participation rate between men and women by 2027 and is confident that having more women in leadership roles can help to achieve this feat.

Head of Clubs and Community Engagement at FV, Meghan Mayman, was a recipient of WLIS in 2014 and strongly encourages female coaches, referees and committee members to apply.

“Women are underrepresented in leadership positions in sport. Not because of a lack of talent, but a lack of opportunity. Let’s harness the opportunity!” Mayman said.

“Through WLIS I gained the ability to reflect on my leadership style. I learned that I didn’t need to emulate male leadership characteristics to be a leader in sport. It was also great to learn from other female leaders who have broken the glass ceiling.”

The 2021 program will provide opportunities in the following three categories (individuals can apply for one category).
